The 35th annual American Music Awards
The 35th annual American Music Awards were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and were broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre L.A on Sunday, November 18 at 8pm ET/PT. For the first time in AMA history and the only music awards show to do so, the fans determined the winners via online voting at ABC.com.
Highlights from the show:
A definite highlight from the AMA Awards was Sugarland’s bluegrass performance with Beyonce – on Beyonce’s original hit single “Irreplaceable.” Sugarland has been singing this song in their live shows, and they took a chance performing it at the AMA’s, but it looks as though their fans and fellow artists really enjoyed their rendition and the duet with Beyonce. Rascal Flatts’ performed their smash hit “Take Me There” and they also picked up the award for Favorite Band, Duo or Group. Taylor Swift announced the winner for Favorite Pop/Rock Male artist… which was Justin Timberlake. Taylor looked at the ballot and was like “Yes!” when she was announcing his name, so I guess she’s a big fan of Justin’s. Carrie Underwood presented Daughtry with the award that she won last year – Favorite Breakthrough Artist. Carrie Underwood also captured a few awards herself – Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Album (“Some Hearts”) and The T-Mobile Text-in Award. Chris Daughtry, a fellow American Idol contestant, and his band took home three awards that night too, including Favorite Album (Pop or Rock) and Favorite Artist (Adult contemporary music). All of Daughtry's success this last year is well-deserved for them and really shows that you don’t have to win American Idol to have a successful career.
