New Artist Spotlight:  Brittany Wells
By Gary Voorhies

Brittany Wells has become accustomed to reaching her goals. Ranked nationally by the United States Tennis Association until she walked away at 14, Wells is also a former Miss Teen Texas America.

Now, she has collaborated with producer/songwriter Wyatt Easterling on her debut album on Spindletop Records, Loving Every Minute of It, released last year.

Wells, the daughter of a U.S. Air Force Fighter pilot, was named for Brittany, England, the city where she was born. Her family moved when she was a toddler to Wichita Falls, Texas.

As a child, Wells enjoyed belting out songs for friends and family, and went on to study piano and voice.

She also excelled at tennis. Wells said the sport helped her understand the discipline required to excel. But her love of entertaining won, and she quit to devote herself to music.

Wells' vocal coach suggested she try the Miss Teen Texas America pageant, which she won in 2002, leading to a year of speaking and singing engagements.

Soon after, Wells began making trips to Nashville and met Easterling.

Two singles have been released from Loving Every Minute of It, "From Harm's Way," written by Easterling, John Marlin and Jeff Vice, and "Somebody's Somebody," written by Steven Bliss, Sherrié Austin and Will Rambeaux.

IN HER OWN WORDS:

Who is your musical hero?
"I really admire Keith Urban because he does everything, including writing, being a great musician as well as being a wonderful performer on-stage."

What CD is on your stereo?
"Actually Craig Morgan is in my stereo right now. I just bought his CD last week and I think it's great. "

What do you sing in the shower?
"Besides my songs, I sing just about everything from Mariah Carey to Martina McBride. Basically, I sing anything I can bust out on."

What actor would portray you in a biopic about your life?
"A lot of people tell me I remind them of Jessica Simpson, so I guess it would have to be Jessica Simpson."

What moment in your life would you relive if you could?
"I really don't have any regrets in my life, as I'm basically a happy person. One moment that I would love to experience again, as it is one of my favorite moments, is the day that I won the title of Miss Teen Texas in 2002. I worked so hard for the title with interview practices, working out and perfecting my talent piece. Winning that title is what took me to the next step in my singing career.  I definitely feel that the title of Miss Teen Texas prepared me for where I am today."

What song do you wish you had written?
"Gosh there are so many, but I would probably say Keith Anderson's song 'Pickin' Wildflowers,' written by John Rich.  It's been on the chart now for 26 weeks, and I'm extremely jealous of Rich, because he's rollin' in the dough!"

What word or phrase do you find yourself saying over and over again?
"There are a couple of phrases.  They tend to annoy people I'm around a lot. One of the phrases I say is 'Hey Oooo,' which is from 'Anchorman' (my favorite movie) and the other phrase is 'Kewl Beans,' which I picked up in sixth grade and haven't stopped quoting since!"

Do you have a lucky charm?
"I really don't have a lucky charm. I don't even believe in luck! I feel like if you work really hard and try your best, whatever is supposed to happen will happen. Plus, I rely on my faith and belief in God to pull me through tough situations I think are hard to handle."

Who is your dream duet partner?
"Well, besides Keith Urban since he is my 'musical hero,' I think Garth Brooks would be fun to perform a duet with. He's so entertaining on stage and just great all around."

If you wrote an autobiography, what would the title be?
"Lovin' Every Minute of It, because I've loved every minute of everything I've done this far in my singing career."

When they look back on your life in 50 years, what do you hope people say about you?
"I would hope people would say that I tried my best in everything I did, and always cared about how people felt and tried to make them happy if they were down."
