Chely Wright
The Metropolitan Hotel
Street Date: February 22, 2005
For quite some time, all of Chely Wright's releases have been for the most part, enjoyable. From her up-beat "Single White Female" to her ballad "Never Love You Enough," they were all pretty good. Lately, I felt as though everything from her was sounding like the last. "Back of the Bottom Drawer" and "The Bumper of my S.U.V." for instance. "Back of the Bottom Drawer" is my least favorite single from Wright. When "The Bumper of my S.U.V." came out, I was like "here we go again" but actually
"Bumper Of My SUV" is a great single. It actually took "listening" to the words instead of just hearing it to realize the importance of the song. It is a very well-written song and equally as good performed.
"It's The Song" starts the album off. This single was written by Bonnie Baker and Universal South recording artist Katrina Elam. ("No End In Sight") Chely Wright does a great job on this one.
I honestly believe that "Between a Mother and a Child" showcases the rawest emotion that a song could possibly have. I hope that it is released as a future single and that Wright is able to break down the independent barriers and walk away with a hit single. This album, "The Metropolitan Hotel" shows promise- it just needs a chance.
