Daniel Lee Martin - On My Way To You Review
By Janelle Landauer
Daniel Lee Martin made his national debut with All That I Am in 2004. The album received high praise from those in the music industry plus several new fans. It's not often that a debut album sets the bar so high, especially from an independent artist, but this album did that and more with CMT Magazine even calling Martin the "most talked about independent artist in 2004."
Martin has returned with his sophomore release - On My Way To You, which was released on May 1, 2007. The first single, "Stark Ravin' Crazy In Love" has already helped to give Martin early success

with several of the Wal-Mart stores that were carrying his CD - selling out just a few days after it was released.
"That's What God Made Rivers For" is a beautifully written song and definitely has high end potential for radio. Other songs that are among the favorites include "It's All How You Look At It," "Roll On By" and the covers of "Take Me Home" and "Keep Your Hands To Yourself." Martin performed both of these covers in his live set a few years at a Wal-Mart In-store and they were favorites from his show then so it was a nice surprise to see that he decided to record them for this album. "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" is one of Martin's best 'performance' songs and the addition of Bronson Arroyo (Cincinnati Reds pitcher and World Series Champion) makes this song the complete package. It's a nice twist to one of the best songs that Charlie Daniels' ever recorded. Martin takes the song and makes it his own and it works.
Martin shouldn't have to worry much about the "sophomore jinx" because he came back with strong songs and quality vocals which are displayed throughout this new project. The only real downside to the CD seems to be that we don't get to see how talented Martin really is as a songwriter. He wrote "Moonshine Momma" - which is a fun honky tonk song but that's the only place you'll see Martin's name next to the song. At least Martin had a lot of great songs to choose from though when he went to record On My Way To You, so whether he wrote all of the songs or just one, the songs are still impressive.
On My Way To You shows growth, originality and as Martin puts it - "it's like nothing that you've heard before." Find out for yourself what all the talk is about and give this new artist a listen to at danielleemartin.com or myspace.com/danielleemartinmusic
