Nashville, TN - September 22, 2005 - SOUNDSTAGE, the award-winning concert series on PBS, will feature multiple Grammy award-winning artist Trisha Yearwood on Friday, September 23 at 11pm CT on Nashville's WNPT, Channel 8. Also performing on the show are special guests country music trio Sugarland and singer/songwriter Billy Currington.
In her first SOUNDSTAGE appearance, Yearwood will perform many of her signature hits, including "She's In Love With The Boy," "XXX's And OOO's (An American Girl)" and "How Do I Live," to name a few.
After an almost three-year break from recording, Yearwood returns to country music with her new single "Georgia Rain," from the forthcoming CD Jasper County, her eleventh album on MCA Nashville, scheduled for release on September 13. In 1991, Yearwood's self-titled debut album sold over a million copies and in the past ten years, she has racked up four gold records, four platinum records, a double platinum award and a quadruple platinum certification. Yearwood was named CMA Female Vocalist of the Year back to back in 1997 and 1998 and has been honored with three Grammy awards and dozens of other trophies. She has also performed at the Academy Awards, the Olympics and the Library of Congress.
Hailing from Atlanta, GA, Sugarland is a trio of singer/songwriters whose high-energy live performances are causing quite a stir in the music industry. Members Jennifer Nettles, Kristen Hall and Kristian Bush wrote all 11 tracks on their debut album, Twice The Speed Of Life, which was just certified Platinum. In their SOUNDSTAGE debut, Sugarland performs their first two singles, "Baby Girl" and "Something More," both of which reached Top 5 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. In addition, "Baby Girl" is the highest-charting debut single by a country group in 14 years.
Mercury recording artist Billy Currington made his country debut with his 2003 self-titled album that spawned the powerful Top 10 hit, "Walk A Little Straighter" and the Top 5 smash, "I Got A Feelin'." He hit the top of the charts again with "Party for Two," his duet with superstar Shania Twain. Now, Currington is set to release his second album, Doin' Somethin' Right, on October 18. He kicks off this SOUNDSTAGE episode with a performance of the CD's title cut that is currently climbing up the country music singles charts.
SOUNDSTAGE originally aired on PBS from 1974 to 1985 and achieved widespread critical acclaim. The pioneering concert-format program featured numerous artists who defined the era, including Bob Dylan, Al Green, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, The Doobie Brothers and Carlos Santana among others. In 2003, the program was revived with a new state of the art makeover. Today, the series is again winning over audiences and gaining widespread critical acclaim with its innovative performances by artists spanning all genres of music.
In June 2005, SOUNDSTAGE returned to PBS with 13 brand new episodes for its third season. Already showcasing Michael McDonald, John Mayer, The Wallflowers, Heart, America, and Ringo Starr the third season continues with more brilliant performances by Chris Isaak, Lindsey Buckingham with special guest Stevie Nicks, Martina McBride, Joss Stone with special guest Mavis Staples.
